Hi, all
sorry to start a topic, without having read all of the topics, I have just spent 2 hours in the dojo, and some redoing the whole levels

The beta demo of Max Payne Real World rules !
it work great on a Macintosh (macbook pro intel core duo)
No bugs !
it's not the same for others mods : no freezing occurs on RW...
the bugs knowed are on the help doc.

how can I say:
Great, Wonderfull, Marvellous ???
And it's just a demo...
The whole game got a new interest, when playing Nero ..
I'm a big fan of Matrix. Thge trailer posted two days ago broke my heart : I want it !
I don't know about the official matrix game, which was not working on Os X, the last time I have checked it. Shame on them, if it's still true..
Just your demo IS Matrix playing
The Real Thing, for a Real World.
I know that you're alone now to do the work, but it's SO GOOD, that , please, kept courage, strengh and finish it !
If I can speak for myself, your mod is what could have gotten Max Payne the Cult game's status
about The demo:
It run smoothly on a macbook pro.
knowed bugs occurs, no problem .
We can use the stick, with the cheat getallweapons
not big moves or as great as in Kung Fu, but cool to play
It's the most Nero like avatar that I have been able to seen on a Macintosh Macbook pro, (intel)
The Matrix spirit is REALLY here...Thanks
The use of doodging and bullet time need practice, but it's GREAT !
I felt like in the movie, really.

My wishes for a new beta demo :

- the ability to use Trinity as player: maybe a simple ligne of code , or a tip ?
nero is avatar 41, how can I set it to use Trinity ? (just to wait the first release of the mod)

- the speed of the game play seem a little quick for me, and if I slow it, using developer option, the speed reset to 100 % after each bullettime move. if it could be fixed ? (not important, it's a demo)

- the release date of march will not be changed ;-) Work, The One developer's mod

So, for all Macintosh users, get the demo, this game will seem new to you, with that beta... It work FINE on mac...
If you have liked Matrix, it's the only mod to download, in activity (and the best one...)
Kung fu is not all, try doodging with weapons

Dear developer:
You sure have loved Matrix, as me. You have planned to do the same in a game . as seen in the trailer, 2 days ago, it seem wonderfull: we want to play the movie !
Your avatar of nero is incredible real !!! Trinity is the same.
For all macintosh user's who have Max Payne, download this beta mod, it worth it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have not test it now on OS 9 , but it should work as in Os X (running with Rosetta on Os X, on a mbp 1.85, the worst is 25 FPS, with all options to the best.
Thanks for all !

(if you need tester on os X, just ask ...)

Hi guys, really glad to hear that the demo works fine on Mac. I don't have a Mac myself, so I can't guarantee the final build will work (and if it doesn't, I wouldn't know how to fix it), but so far it sounds encouraging (by the way, does Katana work???).

Incidentally, there's a high probability that the mod won't work on Windows Vista, so those thinking about upgrading to that OS, might want to consider alternatives like dual-boot setup.

Anyway, I'm glad you like how the mod is going so far. Thanks for your feedback.

hi
for Katana, it run ok on Macintosh, Os X, but I had 2 bugs on it :
I just play it once, and these "bugs" could came from my setting (all to the maximum ) or for bad use of the keyboard during action, as a lot of bad guys wanted to kill me
it can came also from the fact that I play with the 2 developer options enabled.. ?
the Fps was about 10 at the worst, but there are so many tracing bullets, ennemies, and the map are really huge and detailed.
A cool cool work, indeed...
it's hard to survive, by the way

first "bug" is when using q+w+d , and it don't occur each time . it could came also from the Rosetta emulation which allow to play Max Payne on Os X, as Mp was ported for mac PPC processor, and not for mac intel
I have to stay that this bug occurs with others mods.
the result is that i'm stucked, without ability to move . to solve it, I type "go" in the console, and it's ok
The second bug had occured on the last level, when the bad Boss destroy all with earthquake : he stuck himself between two blocks, but can be killed.
I can provide messages given from the console, if needed. it's chinese for me, but some messages came with the bugs, each time.
I will try to play it on Os 9, to see if it come from rosetta and intel processor

a strange thing or easter egg or a joke ?
at the beginning, when I killed the man in the elevator, the first time I play it, just after that, a bad guy with a zombie skin and a chainsaw killed me !
I was not able to see him again, when restarting the level, so was it a welcome message ?

I have played others Matrix based mods since 2 days, but the Real World demo is the only one who gave me the real Matrix feeling, when moving... and the freezing bug never happen...
So, as many others, I am waiting for March 2008 ;-)

mode troll on:
For the Vista thing : No problem dear Pc friends, buy a mac, boot from Xp or from Os X, even from Vista if you're masochist, and be happy
mode troll off

I think the bugs you mentioned in Katana occur in the PC version too -- it's just stuff that couldn't be fixed back then. Ken_Y came up with a good fix for the freezing bug, and I finally figured out why the 'Matrixed Reality' shootdodge locks up sometimes (it's too short).

Yeah there's a lot of easter eggs like that in Katana. That zombie guy appears after the cutscene with the gates shutting -- you simply attack the wall opposite the lift.

Who said TRW is coming out in March 2008?

Who said TRW is coming out in March 2008?

oops ...
it's me, sorry, I have misunderstood the "dev diary updated the 20 march" sentence
...
or may be I wanted too much to see my dreams becoming a reality ?
So we will wait the Morpheus call, in our boring office, spending time to look for Katana's easter eggs
(sorry for my bad english)

Hey maddie.

I thought of a way you could make trw work on vista..

if you make a second edition, where all the sounds from the normal mp1 with the fixed fileformat. i know the mod will be bigger but it would help alot of people out.. especially me and the same for katana if your planning on releasing a vista capable version of that hehe.

That's what I thought, except that the 'patch' thing people are doing to fix their copy of Max Payne fubars mods entirely (according to this thread

I'm not going to redistribute all the sounds that come with Max Payne in TRW. Sorry.

However, thinking about it, there might be a way to get mods working. But you'd have to get your hands dirty, so be prepared to reinstall a few times if it doesn't work.

To fix it properly (and permently), you'd need to extract the game audio, fix it, and then repackage as .ras. Once that's done, it would only be mods that have (occassional) sound bugs.

That might work like this:

Follow the steps of the original fix, exactly as they're described, until you're left with the entire game database (Data folder) extracted, with fixed audio; and the original ras files moved to a new folder.

After you've tested the original game works, repack the Data folder using Rasmaker:

Code
e.g. Rasmaker -a C:/Games/Max Payne/Data x_game.ras

Once it's done, x_game.ras should be the only 'RAS' file in your max payne directory. The other ones should be moved, deleted, or backed up on a CD.

Delete or rename the 'data' folder, and try the game. It *should* still work.
Assuming it does, try running mods -- they should work also (but with buggy sound, which can be fixed seperately).

So... anyone up for trying this? I can't guarantee it'll work, but if it does...

Well ok, but let's not get ahead of ourselves here.

You packed the *.ras file up ok and it works without the data folder? If so, hopefully Katana and the TRW demo will work. Assuming they DO work, I'll post this in the 3drealms forum. No idea why the menu music doesn't work, though (does the in-game music work???)

Remember the sounds (dialogue, some music, etc) in Katana probably won't work at first: -- you'll need to fix it yourself. Do exactly the same thing - extract the mpm to a data folder, fix the audio, then repack the mpm.

Okay so i tested **** out of katana and the real world, and it seems, only the music and dialogue (for katana) has to be fixed. every other sound works perfectly.

but same for katana as for trw is that the menu music doesnt work. but some ingame music does work. havent completed katana on vista yet so i only heard some of the start tracks that works fine. the combat music in trw doesnt work either.

but weapons, kung fu, enemies all that other stuff besides music works already. so there's no biggie in fixing any of them

Hmm, sounds like none of the regular music is working. However, the reason you'd hear some music in Katana is because Straton used 2d sounds (i.e. dialogue tracks) for some of the music, instead of the 'proper' music.

There are two things I'd like you try for me.

1. Play regular Max Payne for a bit and see if the music in that game works at all. The game uses 'music' to play ambient noise tracks mostly, but as you know, there are a few action scenes (first hotel level, after the shotgun door trap) that use proper music.

If the music isn't playing, that could mean one of two things:

i. The original fix isn't fixing the music.
OR:
ii. Repackaging the music isn't working for some reason.

If the in-game music does work in Max Payne, then maybe just the music for mods needs to be fixed. In which case...

2. Try appying the fix to the mods. Extract the mpm file to a data folder, run the fix, then repackage as mpm -- it should be exactly the same as what you did with the game database.

Thanks and let me know how you get on.

So i played normal mp.. and the music works there. as it supposed to do because of the fix.

so now i fixed the katana sounds etc repacked as mpm. and all sounds work now. so its all good. menu, dialogue etc. So the sollution is here "if you want to play mp1 with mods on vista your hands is going to get dirty"...

Though its not that hard to fix this. goldwave does all the work.

So i havent tried this for trw kung fu. but i can only bet all my money on it will have the same effect
